PulmozymeWhy is this medication prescribed?Pulmozyme is used to reduce the number of lung infections and to improve lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis. It breaks down the thick secretions in the airways, allowing air to flow better and preventing bacteria from building up. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. How should this medicine be used?Pulmozyme comes as a solution to inhale by mouth. It usually is taken one or two times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Pulmozyme exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Pulmozyme is used to treat cystic fibrosis but does not cure it. Continue to use Pulmozyme even if you feel well. Do not stop using Pulmozyme without talking to your doctor. Before you use Pulmozyme the first time, read the written instructions that come with it. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or respiratory therapist to demonstrate the proper technique. Practice using the nebulizer while in his or her presence. Only use a nebulizer that is recommended by your doctor. What side effects can this medication cause?Although side effects from Pulmozyme are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away.
If you experience either of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately.
